 MASI Acquires AgriGuard

 

Mitsui AgriScience International (MASI) has announced that it has reached agreement with the owner of AgriGuard Holdings Ltd to acquire the 100% shares of AgriGuard Limited.   AgriGuard Holdings Ltd. owns 100% shares of AgriGuard Ltd.

AgriGuard has been successful in developing and registering a portfolio of post-patent products that have a particular focus in the arable crop sector which is targeted as a key growth area for MASI’s long-term strategy in Europe.  The acquisition will include the range of AgriGuard products with their associated intellectual property as well as the transfer of staff.

The acquisition will contribute to the growth of MASI’s agrochemical distribution interests in Europe. These currently include Certis Europe, which has direct sales in the UK, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Spain and Italy, and Spiess Urania in Germany which also operates in Poland and Hungary.

AgriGuard, whose main business is in the UK and Ireland, will trade alongside Certis Europe’s UK business but will continue to be managed separately.

AgriGuard’s Managing Director, Brian Parker, commenting on the deal said, “This acquisition by Mitsui is very exciting and provides significant growth opportunities for AgriGuard especially in continental Europe.  We look forward to working with Mitsui and alongside their crop protection subsidiaries to further develop chemicals for the arable sector thus creating a powerful combination for success.”

AgriGuard Ltd, an Irish generic agricultural chemical company has been awarded a generic registration in the UK for propyzamide under the trade names Solitaire and Setanta, both flowable formulations. This is the first post Annex 1 generic registration for propyzamide to be issued in the EU. Propyzamide is a residual benzamide herbicide used in a wide range of crops. 
 
AgriGuard Ltd supplies a range of cost effective products to farmers and growers through established distribution net works in the UK, Ireland, throughout Western Europe and Morocco.
